Our firm—our legal team—our family has a passion for handling nursing home abuse and neglect cases. The mistreatment of the elderly in nursing homes is a national disgrace. There are some excellent nursing homes with compassionate caregivers. The good nursing homes and the dedicated caregivers, who do care, should be honored and thanked. Unfortunately, there are far too many bad nursing homes that are understaffed and who have nursing home administrators, medical directors, and corporate owners who simply don’t care. There are far too many cases in which nursing home residents are physically harmed by neglect or abuse, deprived of food and water and medical attention. As a consequence, the residents endure immense pain and suffering and often needless death as a result of nursing home abuse and neglect.

Our society has a duty to protect the elderly and prevent the neglect and abuse of our most vulnerable citizens. Tom Brokaw calls them "The Greatest Generation." He is right. They worked harder than any generation. They fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. They sacrificed so that their children could have a better life. They deserve better. It is our duty to protect them.

The Law Offices of Cullan & Cullan, M.D., J.D. is a unique firm with a rich tradition of service to others that developed as a direct result of the values that were engrained in the Cullan Family by the actions and words of Lorene and Harry Cullan.

Lorene and Harry Cullan were married in the great depression in 1932. Like so many other young couples, they were penniless. All they had were their dreams, a sense of duty, a work ethic, and a love of family. Good thing. As destiny would have it, Harry and Lorene would raise a large family—twelve in all—on a family farm and ranch near Hemingford, Nebraska.

Harry and Lorene wanted their children to work hard and give back to the community. They encouraged helping neighbors who were sick or simply needed a hand. They were active in the community. They stressed the importance of education and of finding a job that you love. They believed that "if you love what you are doing, it is not work." Their work ethic was contagious.

Of the ten boys and two girls that Lorene and Harry raised, following college, four of the Cullan children returned to the noble profession of farming. Six of the children became lawyers, and three of the lawyers are also doctors. One is a pharmacist as well as a lawyer. Amazingly, two of their grandsons are now lawyers who are also medical doctors.
